With a bit of photoshoppery, the German national team's Michael Ballack era has officially come to an end. Though Jogi Low made it clear that Ballack had no future with the team back in June, pictures of Ballack defiantly wearing the captain's armband and flanked by teammates who have slapped him in the face -- on the pitch by Lu-Lu-Lu Lukas Podolski and in the press by Philipp Lahm -- remained on the DFB website.
But as Bild points out, that is no longer the case. Both Ballack and goalkeeper Rene Adler have been erased from promotional images, with Bastian Schweinsteiger moved to the front and center position and Sam Khedira and Mesut Ozil added to the mix.
So with all hope of returning to the national team now gone, Ballack is left only with his fine play for Bayer Leverkusen and his firm belief that one day -- maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but one day -- he will get his twisted revenge on Poldi and Lahm. And it will involve peanut butter.
