Adebayor apologizes to Arsenal fans for what he did two years ago

Apologizing for stuff is apparently the thing to do for footballers these days. First Edin Dzeko apologized for his behavior earlier in the week and now Emmanuel Adebayor is apologizing for what he did two years ago.

Yes, just before Adebayor faces Arsenal on the Spurs side of a North London derby, he's suddenly decided that he's sorry for stomping on Robin van Persie's face and running the length of the pitch just to celebrate a goal in front of Arsenal fans as a member of Man City two years ago.

From Soccernet:

"What happened two years ago was an accident and I do apologise to all the fans of Arsenal. Sometime the emotions, we cannot control them, we are all human beings," Adebayor told talkSPORT. "I regret what I have done and I say sorry to everyone but at the end of the day sorry doesn't change anything. For me it's over.

"I'm looking forward to playing against Arsenal again on Sunday but believe me, if I have a chance to score, trust me I will score but as for the celebration, never in my life will I do something like that again.

"It will be a funny game [on Sunday], it'll be fantastic. I have a chance to play against Arsenal again, the club that gave me the chance to be where I am today. I have a huge respect for the club."

Yes, so much respect that he's only thought to apologize for his blatantly disrespectful actions two years after the fact in an attempt to stifle the festering backlash that will be unleashed upon him in a couple of days.

I am curious why he thinks such a bitter rivalry will produce a funny game, though. Maybe he will come out in a clown suit.
