Late into Zenit St. Petersburg's scoreless draw against Anzhi, the visiting side's Joao Carlos, who had been shown a yellow nine minutes earlier, was whistled for a foul. Teammate Mbark Boussoufa kicked the ball back towards the spot of the foul, but it caught the ref on the back of the arm. Intentional or not, this immediately distracted the ref from his original call as he turned around and showed Boussoufa a yellow card -- Boussoufa's first of the match -- then decided to show him a red too, just for good measure.
There were a total of seven yellows before this incident plus one more after, so the referee was reaching into his pocket quite a bit during this match. And he proved he wasn't going to take any guff from those punks when his back was turned, either. Even if he wasn't sure of their intent.
