Former Celtic star writes a sitcom pilot

Former Scottish international and Celtic defender Jackie McNamara has channeled his inner Larry David to come up with a new sitcom idea. McNamara ? who clearly has a bit too much free time in his current role as Partick Thistle manager ? has unveiled a pilot for The Therapy Room, described by producers as "Shameless meets Gary Tank Commander". Which roughly translates to "Gratuitous sex scenes meets something you've never heard of". Chortle elaborates:

Its central idea is that a Premiership club installs a 'therapy room' in which players can get things off their chests in front of a camera, in a similar vein to Big Brother's Diary Room.

According to those who saw the pilot's first screening at an Edinburgh cinema last night, the show features raunchy scenes, including one in which the main character has sex while his team-mates watch from cupboards, and an expletive-laden script.

It sounds like a sporting rip-off of The Office format, and a few of the actors look like they took lessons from Keanu Reeves, but I certainly hope the pilot gets picked up. After all, if this show is on once a week, that's half an hour that a soul-destroying reality TV show isn't on.

McNamara isn't the first football star to make the transition to the small screen: Terry Venables is credited as the co-creator of brilliantly-themed-tuned '70s drama series Hazell, and Rio Ferdinand brought the art of 'merking' to the general population with Rio's World Cup Wind-ups...
